Engineering awards are given to young engineers for innovative endeavors carried out by them. These awards are given for varied fields of Engineering like Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Industrial Design, Mechanical, motor vehicle and many other fields. These awards are constituted to encourage the students of engineering to cut a new paths in their chosen field. Here are the top three Engineering awards in India.

Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Engineering and Technology

The SSB award is given annually by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research for outstanding research in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics and other subjects. The award is named after founder-director of CSIR since 1958.

The names of the candidates are proposed by the governing body of CSIR, Vice-Chancellors of universities or institutes, deans of different faculties of science and previous recipients. Six experts including a former recipient, form an advisory committee to deliberate and select the winner for current year. If there are two nominees of the same field, and equal merit both are awarded like it happened in 2020. Mr. Anmol Arvind Rao Kulkarni from Maharashtra won for Multiphase reactors and Microreactors and Mr. Kinshuk Dasgupta of West Bengal won for Material Science, Nanotechnology.

The prize includes a citation, a plaque and cash award of Rs. 5 lakhs and Rs. 15,000/- per month till the age of 65 years. The name of the winner is declared on CSIR foundation day that is September 26th, and it is awarded by the Prime Minister of India. This ward is a great motivation for new innovators in the field of Engineering.

Infosys Prize

This annual award is given to Scientists, Researchers, Engineers and Social Scientists of Indian origin. This felicitation is conducted by Infosys Science Foundation. The prize for each category includes a gold medallion, a citation certificate and prize money US$ 100,000 or its equivalent in Indian Rupees. last year the award was granted to Mr. Hari Balakrishnan from Massachusetts Institute of Technology for his broad contribution to computer networking, his hard-hitting work on mobile and wireless systems.  The award is by the publicly listed company Infosys and the trustees are N.R. Narayana Murthy, S. Gopalakrishnan, S.D. Shibulal, T.V.Mohandas Pai, Nandan Nilekani and others. This award is an excellent chance for Indian engineering students who are studying abroad too. With this kind of prize money, the winners can certainly build a great career in their favourite fields.

Om Prakash Bhasin Award

The award is constituted by Shri Om Prakash Bhasin Foundation, a Delhi-based charitable organization founded by Vinod Bhasin and his two sons, Mr. Shivy Bhasin and Mr. Hemant Kumar Bhasin in the loving memory of Shri Om Prakash Bhasin. The committee decides the recipients includes Shivy Bhasin, Hemant Kumar Bhasin, Vinod Prakash Sharma ( Scientist Trustee), Samar Vikram Bhasin and State Bank of India who are the bankers to the foundation. The award prize is Rs. 100,000/- which given to an individual or a group along with a plaque and citation. The winners are also invited to deliver the Om Prakash Bhasin Memorial Lecture. The winner in the biotechnology category in the year 2015 was Mr. M K Bhan. The winner for Electronics and Information Technology in the year 2020 was Mr. Swades De. This award is an opportunity for the students to break barriers and innovate in their field by conducting successful research ideas.

These are some of the awards at the national level an engineering student can aim for. The passion for their field and thorough research will get them the results they desire. All students may not win the award but to aim in the direction of engineering excellence in their chosen field will definitely give their career the impetus they dream of.
